Tenuta di Collosorbo, founded by Giovanna Ciacci in 1995, was part of the Tenuta di Sesta estate. Tenuta di Sesta has existed since 1850. It was one of the first estates to produce Brunello when DOC Brunello di Montalcino was created in 1966.
The winemaking process is meticulous and lengthy resulting in a deep, balanced and sophisticated wine. In the best harvest years, the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is obtained from the meticulous selection of Sangiovese grapes from the estate’s oldest best vineyards. It is the product of diligent and thorough fieldwork and of focused operations in the wine cellar which preserve the essence of the Sangiovese grape and exalt the qualities of a wine which every bottle reflects over history and time.
Full bodied, with aromas of red and black fruits, underlying vanilla and spice, with a hint of earthiness.
“Ripe plums, balsam herbs and hints of brown spice create a rich and darkly alluring display as the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva opens in the glass. This is deeply textural, featuring ripe red and black fruits contrasted by salty minerals and brisk acids, as fine tannins mount under an air of violets and tobacco. It tapers off persistent and lightly structured, leaving inner rose and hints of mocha and black licorice. While you can pick up a bit of the warmth of Castelnuovo dell’Abate here, Collosorbo did a fantastic job of finding a lovely balance from the 2016 Riserva.”

“The subtle nose slowly reveals underbrush, leather, dried black-skinned fruit and tobacco. Robust and concentrated, the dense palate features prune marinated in spirts, raisin and licorice alongside a tight weave of firm, velvety tannins. You’ll also notice the heat of evident alcohol that takes over the finish.”
