Tenuta di Collosorbo, founded by Giovanna Ciacci in 1995, was part of the Tenuta di Sesta estate. Tenuta di Sesta has existed since 1850. It was one of the first estates to produce Brunello when DOC Brunello di Montalcino was created in 1966.
The winemaking process is meticulous and lengthy resulting in a deep, balanced and sophisticated wine. In the best harvest years, the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is obtained from the meticulous selection of Sangiovese grapes from the estate’s oldest best vineyards. It is the product of diligent and thorough fieldwork and of focused operations in the wine cellar which preserve the essence of the Sangiovese grape and exalt the qualities of a wine which every bottle reflects over history and time.
Full bodied, with aromas of red and black fruits, underlying vanilla and spice, with a hint of earthiness.
“Like the 2019 Annata this Collosorbo Riserva from the previous vintage provides an aromatic mess of spice that dominate within the exotic perfume. Once again this combination of place and winemaking does everything to encourage such a wild masala emission. That would be a località most proximate to Castelnuovo dell’Abate and the abbey of Sant’Antimo is the southeastern part of Montalcino. A place of V-shaped valleys that might be compared to certain parts of Barolo where warm seasons are contrasted and tempered by soils that offer cool respite to vines. A crunchy Riserva here from Collosorbo that uses its spices to make sure the wine is expressed with great complexity no matter the austerity or mild astringency of tannins and the finish. Drink 2026-2036. Tasted November 2023.”
