Tenute Orestiadi

Tenute Orestiadi was founded in 2008 by the president of the Orestiadi Foundation and the president of Cantina Ermes, one of the biggest wine cooperatives in Sicily. Tenute Orestiadi vineyards have a set of unique terroir, characterized by different soils, specific microclimates and different altitudes to create wines that are the fruit of passion and dedication, as well as of a deep knowledge of the Valley and its micro-peculiarities.

The sun and the wind, which characterize the Belìce Valley, are the cradle of the Nero D’Avola vines planted in black soil at 100-300 metres above sea level on the gentle hills of the Trapani hinterland. Rich in silt-clay substances, compact and resistant to drought, black soil is particularly well suited for the cultivation of this indigenous Sicilian grape. Tenute Orestiadi Nero d’Avola DOC Sicilia is 100% Nero d’Avola. The wine is aged two to four months in steel tanks and then eight to ten months in French oak barrels.

The palate is true to the nose with red cherry and raspberry. The wine is balanced with mineral-like acidity. Enjoy alongside a charcuterie board.

“Trapani is the source for Orestiadi’s nero d’avola for their estate in the village of Gibellina Nuova, in the Belìce Valley. The aromas here are hyper varietal and anyone who has a sense of what ripe, fruit musky and sweet liquorice scented NdA smells like will instantly recognize it here. Intensely flavourful and the sort of Sicilian red that will raise eyebrows and solicit knowing nods. Consumers who are not yet privy will surely feel the upscale worthiness of spending $26 on a classy bottle of red. Drink 2024-2026.”

“Rich ruby red with garnet rim. A nose of sour cherry and redcurrant, then some lavender. Well balanced on the palate, full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a long finish.”
90 points, Othmar Kiem & Simon Staffler, Falstaff, August 2023
