Vignole’s Chianti Classico DOCG presents remarkable value from one of the region’s first winemaking families, the Nistris, who have been fixtures of the local wine trade since 1865.

The Nistri vineyards cover 21 hectares along the Pesa River near the town of Panzano. The region earned its name (the Conca d’Oro, or the “golden bowl”) for the outstanding quality of the wines produced here. Vines grow on hillsides exposed to the south-east and south-west at 300 metres above sea level. Hand-picked Estate-grown fruit was fermented by plot and varietal in concrete vats, where it macerated on skins for 15 days. The Sangiovese spends 12 months in traditional large oak casks, whereas the Merlot sees 12 months in oak barrels. After blending, the wine lies in cellars set into the surrounding hillside for a full year prior to release.

By the addition of 15% Merlot, the Sangiovese is softened. The result is a deep red wine with a lush nose of red fruit and violets. Supple and full-bodied on the palate with well-integrated tannins, dried and preserved fruit tones are lifted by layers of wild red berries.

“The 2020 Chianti Classico is a powerful, dense wine. Black cherry, new saddle leather, incense, mocha and tobacco are all amplified by the inclusion of 10% Merlot in the blend, Readers will find a wine of substance and character.”

“All estate-grown fruit from Panzano in Chianti, Vignole’s Regginino annata is an attractive and fragrant example off the top, ripe but still fresh, featuring an expected range of red but also black fruit. There’s an inherent sweetness to that fruit on the palate, leading a supple, broad texture, alongside sandy-fine tannins. Length and depth are very good. Satisfying, well-made and balanced wine all around, ready to enjoy or hold up to about 5 years.”
