Carl Loewen is the benchmark of Mosel wines. His light Rieslings are full of character. Loewen’s philosophy of minimal intervention winemaking, orientates itself towards the traditional winemaking, which he interprets in a contemporary way which gracefully showcases high-class terroir grapes.

The grapes mature until October, allowing the fruit to ripen fully. The cold weather during late harvest keeps the must at low temperatures, at which the spontaneous fermentation would carry out for weeks. The Quant wine retains a small and natural amount of sugar and shows wonderful harmony alongside a dry taste impression. The elegance and fruit of this wine is compelling.

“A joyful Mosel riesling that’s got so much charm that it’s difficult not be enticed by the yellow-apple, white-peach and herbal aromas. Spot-on balance, in the zone that some will say is easily dry enough, while others will notice the hint of unfermented grape sweetness. Long, crisp finish with a slatey touch.”

  • Riesling Alte Reben 2020
“This stunning dry Mosel riesling proves that you don’t need more than 12% alcohol to shine in this category. So much flinty and slatey character and a wonderful interplay between this and precisely nuanced, citrusy fruit. Then comes a firework display of minerality at the breathtaking finish. Drink or hold.”

  • Riesling Maximin Herrenberg 2020
“This Mosel masterpiece shows such an abundance of beauty and grace and it’s easy just to sink into the wide range of perfectly ripe stone-fruit aromas. Then the finish emerges, like a whale rising from the depths to the surface of the ocean, leaving you breathless. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.”
97 points, James Suckling, August 2021
  • Riesling Ritsch GG 2020
“Welcome to the mountain peaks, where Alpine flowers blossom and wild herbs grow next to mountain streams. That’s the personality of this cool, super-elegant dry riesling. Enormous Amalfi lemon-zest, bergamot and mineral freshness give the finish breathtaking brilliance. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.”
