LCBO Vintages Release
Duckhorn’s Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc paints a picture of New World Sauvignon Blanc that departs from the well-known New Zealand style: while New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blanc revels in green layers of citrus fruit, tart gooseberry, and vegetal flavours, Duckhorn’s offering is distinctly ripe, tropical, and creamy-textured.
This elegant wine combines 79% Sauvignon Blanc with a generous dose of 21% Sémillon harvested from the winery’s estate Napa Valley vineyards. A portion of the wine was barrel-fermented in French oak and the finished wine matured on fine lees prior to bottling. These techniques, in addition to the inclusion of Sémillon, add depth and complexity to the aroma, palate, and mouthfeel. You’ll find aromas of ripe passion fruit, papaya, and ginger on the nose, with lovely Sémillon-driven silkiness on the palate. Vibrant citrus and tropical fruit are undeniably crisp and refreshing through the long finish.
“One of the beautiful aspects of Duckhorn’s perennially delicious Sauvignon Blanc is its texture and structure. Richer and more oily than the majority of Sauvignons that are either tart or austere, the Duckhorn 2016 is a Sauvignon that will stand up to cream sauces and richer, more oily fish. This vintage is impeccably balanced, with impressive complexity and length, showing notes of citrus, tropical fruits and stone fruits.”
