Set in the magnificent and rugged surroundings of the Andes, Primus’s elegant red wines exhibit uncompromising quality. Created by Agustin Huneeus, a visionary vintner known for creating some of the world’s finest red blends, Primus wines, produced by the winery Veramonte, have earned a string of accolades. Primus produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere and Malbec, in addition to flagship favourite ‘The Blend’.
At Primus, winemaker Rodrigo Soto is at the helm of one of Chile’s most ambitious organic vineyard projects. Since he joined the winery in 2012, he has worked towards converting all of the estates to organic viticulture. With a wealth of international experience, he brings a keen understanding of terroir, and the passion and skill to produce wines that express a sense of place.
The Primus vineyards are located in Marchigue, a sub-region of Colchagua well-known for producing red wine grapes of high quality. Its warm climate is moderated by two mountain ranges that stretch north to south along the Colchagua Valley. Combined with well-drained rocky clay-loam soil, the region is ideal for Bordeaux varietals.
Soto’s wines are made with the attention to detail reserved for the world’s top wineries: vineyard yields are kept low to provide concentration and intensity. Grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted. Wines age in French and American oak for over a year before release.
