LCBO Vintages Release
California’s Angeline Vineyards sources its Chardonnay from carefully select vineyards from areas such as Santa Barbara County, the Russian River Valley, and the western reaches of Mendocino County – regions that can bring out its full potential and truly showcase how complex of a varietal it can be. These coastal regions similarly tend toward uniform daytime temperatures and cool, foggy nights throughout the growing season to help concentrate the flavour as the sugar and acids develop.
2018 was a very steady season, with the temperate weeks before harvest allowing for a slow ripening and the development of complex flavours. Higher than average yields and excellent quality brought about a fruitful harvest beginning in late August.
Grapes from each vineyard were hand-picked and pressed to stainless steel tanks where they were then inoculated with carefully chosen yeast, specifically picked to amplify each region’s distinct terroir. The juice is racked to 30% new French and American oak barrels to fully complete both primary and secondary fermentation, then was aged sur lie for 6 months before bottling.
The goal with all Angeline wines is to over-deliver, and this elegant 2018 California Chardonnay certainly does. Aromas of fresh Granny Smith Apple, lemon custard tart, and hints of wildflower honey greet you in the glass. The fresh acidity on the palate is balanced by a round, creamy texture and notes of bananas foster and a hints of vanilla appear on the finish. Smooth, delicious, and totally deserving of a place at your dinner table.
