Lalande de Pomerol sits just north of the more famous neighbouring AOC Pomerol. It is a much larger appellation and the soils are more varied. The Châteaux here are less famous, the wines slightly less polished, but far, far less expensive. Look to Lalande de Pomerol for delicious wines with a rustic personality. In this regard it seems a bit like Fronsac, where one can also find true gems.

The nose reveals a pretty bouquet of strawberries, raspberries, crushed stone, and flowers. The palate is medium-full body with silky tannins. Modest acidity and a lush, pure mouthfeel follow. This round, rich wine is drinkable now, or comfortable for four to six years to come.
