Château Siran is one of the historic estates of Margaux, with roots in the appellation stretching back several centuries. The property is guided by a long-standing commitment to precision, balance, and sustainable viticulture. Its vineyards sit on gently elevated gravel mounds formed from ancient alluvial deposits, where fine siliceous gravels provide excellent drainage and heat retention, shaping the refined and aromatic character typical of Margaux.
The wine is built on a classic Left Bank blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with Petit Verdot adding structure and aromatic lift. Sustainable farming, meticulous parcel-by-parcel selection, and careful extraction define the winemaking, followed by aging in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new. Aromas of black cherry, cassis, and violets emerge alongside notes of cedar, graphite, and subtle spice. The palate is supple yet structured, with silky tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, harmonious finish that balances fruit, florality, and savoury depth.
Château Siran pairs beautifully with elegant, flavour-driven dishes. Serve it alongside roast lamb, duck breast, or beef tenderloin, or with mushroom-based dishes and truffle-accented preparations. It also complements aged cheeses such as Comté or a well-aged Gouda, making it a versatile and classic Margaux at the table.
“The 2019 Siran has a classically-styled, reassuringly precise and focused bouquet with plenty of mineralité and tension. The oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine precision and balance, still a bit of oak to be soaked up here but it will with time. Wonderful focus and boasting greater persistence than its peers, this Margaux is firing on all cylinders. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.”
