Recognizing the potential of another remarkable site even closer to the water, 43 acres of Sea View Ridge were planted almost entirely to Pinot Noir in 1998. Over the years, it has been the custom to make a single Pinot Noir that tells the story of Sea View Ridge, but this is a wild and diverse place. It is more like a mosaic, a collection of vineyard blocks, draped over rugged ridges along the ocean. Each of these blocks has different traits, giving rise to wines with distinctive characteristics.

A combination of lots from Flower’s own two coastal estate vineyards, Camp Meeting Ridge, and Sea View Ridge, with outstanding blocks of fruit from neighbouring Bohan Vineyard, the wine expresses the vivid character of the remote slopes of Fort Ross-Seaview, a tiny region defined by elevation-900-plus feet, above the fog line – along the first three ridgelines edging the Pacific Ocean.

This Pinot Noir distills the essence of Fort Ross-Seaview, its ridgetop vineyards combining structure with an edge of the wilderness. Brambly blackberry aromas are wrapped in deep forest botanicals and sandalwood incense on the nose, while dark spice and woodsy herbal notes set off fresh, tart berry flavours. Red licorice, cedarwood, and pungent green herbs linger on a bright, structured finish.
