Fritz Haag

Nestled in the heart of Germany’s Middle Mosel, Weingut Fritz Haag is a benchmark estate with deep roots in the region’s winemaking legacy. The estate was established by Wilhelm Haag, whose steadfast commitment to excellence was summed up by his motto: “Quality is the only path to reach one’s goals.” Today, that tradition is carried forward by his son, Oliver Haag, who oversees the family estate with the same precision and care. The vineyards are planted on steep, south-facing slopes composed of pure slate, a hallmark of Brauneberg terroir, offering ideal conditions for Riesling to thrive. These mineral-rich soils lend the wines their trademark tension, elegance, and expressive character.

The Riesling is crafted from carefully selected estate fruit sourced from the slate-rich vineyards in and around Brauneberg. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in a combination of traditional large wooden casks and stainless steel tanks, preserving purity while adding layers of texture. The resulting wine is vibrant and precise, with aromas of citrus blossom and stone fruit, a backbone of zesty acidity, and a distinctive slate-driven minerality that speaks clearly of its origin.

This off-dry Riesling is exceptionally versatile at the table. Its bright, clean profile makes it a refreshing solo sip, but it truly shines alongside fresh seafood, especially scallop ceviche, where its acidity and minerality elevate the dish. A pitch-perfect choice for light fare, salads, and subtly spiced cuisine.

“The 2024 Riesling feinherb is off-dry. This dances onto the nose and palate with lemony charm and slate poise. Yes, there is slight residual sugar but it sinks into the cool stone, presenting a Riesling of immense harmony on a light body. The 2024 is quintessential Mosel in a good way.”
90 points, Anne Krebiehl, Vinous Media, August 2025
