In an effort to produce a wine that pays honourable tribute to the esteemed Sonoma Coast AVA as well as over-deliver in quality for both the Pinot Noir enthusiast and casual wine drinker alike, the winemaking team sources the grapes from premium sites throughout the region. The winery’s long-established relationships with the growers who supply the fruit ensures consistent, impeccable quality vintage after vintage. This blend includes, in large part, several of the vineyards that have shown as standouts within the vast and rugged Sonoma Coast.
Grapes were fermented by vineyard plot in small open-top fermenters with gentle punch-downs. The fermentations were carefully maintained at moderate temperatures, then basket-pressed and transferred to barrels for malolactic fermentation. Lots were aged for 11 months in French oak, both new barrels and more nuanced one- to two-year-old barrels.
This wine captures the expectations of classic Sonoma County Pinot from a stellar vintage, showing all the traits of an exemplary growing season: the nose shows fresh raspberry, cherry, and cola spice, leading into tart cranberry, subtle nutmeg, and silky tannins.
“A typical Sonoma Coast Pinot with a tightness and brightness with dark cherry and ripe strawberry. Medium to full body. Compacted palate and a firm finish. Needs time to open. Better in a year or two.”
93 points, James Suckling, November 2022
