The Vignole farm is situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico DOCG region. The vineyards cover 21 hectares along the Pesa River near the town of Panzano, in an area also known locally as the Conca d’Ora, or the “Golden Bowl” for the outstanding quality of the wines produced here. Vines grow on hillsides exposed to the south-east and south-west at 290 to 320 metres above sea level.
The Campicaia is a 85% Sangiovese, with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon lending to the structure and body of the wine. Grapes are handpicked and fermented by variety in concrete vats, with maceration on the skins for 15 days. The wine is then transferred to small barrels (225 litre barriques and 400 litre tonneaux) where it undergoes malolactic fermentation, then ages for about 20 months. After blending it gets a further three months in barrels, then is aged for a minimum of six months in bottle before release.
Intense red with light garnet hues, with wild berries on the nose opening to spicy aromas and savoury hints of undergrowth. The palate follows through, revealing supple, velvety, and well-integrated tannins, a full-body, and a long finish. It’s the perfect accompaniment to game, steaks, and rich pasta sauces.
“Pure balsamic soaked blackcurrant with a spicy, tangy, marine quality. Full-bodied with elegant tannins and high ageing potential.”
