“Certified as a biodynamic wine producer for ten years now, Domaine Vacheron is surely one of the highlights in the Sancerrois. Lead by Jean-Dominique and his cousin Jean-Laurent, the family domaine produces a range of different single vineyard Sancerres in white, red and pink that reflects not just the rich variety of the terroirs in the region, but the concept of the cousins who seem to demonstrate that the Sancerreois is no less fascinating than the Côte d’Or. In fact, the rich and powerful whites (38 of the 50 hectares are planted with Sauvignon Blanc) belong to the best Sancerres you can find, especially when you have the patience to give the crus the time they need to develop.”

The wine is renowned for its intense aroma of ‘green’ fruit and freshly cut grass. On first tasting the wine one is struck by the intensity of the gooseberry fruit but there is a dense mineral core with nuances of vanilla that gives the wine impressive presence. Simply delicious, this displays candied citrus and berry aromas and flavours accented by grains and pencil shavings on a firm, light-bodied structure. On the dry side, it lingers nicely on the finish.
The 2016 is a recent release and has yet to be reviewed. The 2015 received the following:
“Jean-Dominique Vacheron’s white 2015 Sancerre shows a very clear and elegant white fruit aroma with elderflowers on the nose. Full-bodied, very elegant and fruit intense, but also with mineral and phenolic grip, it has a long and powerful finish. This is remarkably good, perfectly balanced Sancerre. The 2015 reflects the warm and sunny vintage as well as the elegant and complex Vacheron style. The aromatic aftertaste reveals a nice mango aroma, as well as cassis and refreshing mineral flavors.”
