LCBO Vintages Release
Duckhorn Vineyards has been making wine with grapes grown in Napa Valley’s best vineyards for almost 40 years. This Chardonnay comes from 12 vineyards in the Valley’s coolest regions, grown during the third in a string of exceptional Napa vintages. A warm spring triggered early budbreak, and developing fruit benefitted from perfect weather through the summer.
Largely barrel-fermented in French oak with regular lees stirring, only half went through malolactic fermentation. The finished wine spent 10 months ageing in new barrels, neutral barrels, and stainless steel.
The result? Focused flavours, resolved tannins, rich texture. You’ll find aromas of Bosc pear, lemon cream, vanilla, and spice on the nose. The palate is all silky texture and bright minerality with white peach and mandarin-orange acidity framed by baked apple and elderflower.
“This wine is well-sourced, its grapes coming from Brown Ranch, Toyon and Trefethen, among other sites. Aging takes place partially in barrels that have been soaked in water before toasting to lessen the impact, and in stainless steel. Light, crisp honeyed apple, pear and vanilla star alongside caramel and a floral flourish.”
