Known as one of the great Village level vineyards in all of Burgundy, Enseigneres is located directly below the Batard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Crus. With calcareous clay soils on a bed of limestone, this vineyard has all the hallmarks of a quality Burgundy terroir, and the result is terrific.
This wine is made from nearly 50 year old vines, is hand harvested and aged for 17 months, 12 of which are in 100% oak barrels (20% new oak). The result is a rich, yet balanced Chardonnay, with floral notes, along with ripe orchard fruit and warm spice.
“Attractive lemon colour, a little more depth to the nose, some reduction, suggesting a flower or two as well. Very finely balanced, a little more flesh at the back. And then kicks on significantly. Excellent tension, a fine example.”
91-93 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, November 2021
