Maison Bretonnière

Loire Valley

Located at the heart of the Pays Nantais in the village of Monnières, Maison Bretonnière is situated in a region where wine production is profoundly influenced by the interplay of soil and climate. This maritime region, moderated by the Atlantic, provides a unique environment for viticulture. The soil where the vines grow is predominantly gneiss and igneous rock mixed with clay, a legacy of volcanic activity that occurred millions of years ago. Being porous in nature, the soil drains exceptionally well, which is key in an area that receives significant rainfall and is marked by a network of rivers.

Maison Bretonnière is a small, family-owned winery that’s been passed down through generations since 1789. Today Maison Bretonnière is run by brothers Benjamin and Gwénaël, who took over the domain. The brothers are united in life and work. Passionate and proud to continue this beautiful family story with the same dedication and fervor, they encourage the terroir of the Pays Nantais to shine through in their wines. The star varietal is, of course, Melon de Bourgogne, grown over prime vineyard land on the banks of the Maine and Sèvre rivers. Vines range in age from 30 to 70 years old.
