A hotbed of volcanic activity millions of years ago, the ancient eroded soils of the Domaine de la Bretonnière’s vineyards are the optimal growing site for Sauvignon Blanc. The volcanic rock and clay provide drainage for a Maritime region known for natural humidity, a network of rivers, and significant rainfall.
Domaine de la Bretonnière’s Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent example of the brisk, linear, textural style the Domaine is best known for. Made entirely of Sauvignon Blanc, the juice was separated from the lees after pressing, fermented, then aged on fine lees in concrete tanks for seven months. This period of sur lie maturation lends a creaminess and rounded feel to the palate of this typically crisp, direct grape variety.
The resulting wine is delicate, textural, and dry with notes of citrus and green apple. This wine is immensely popular in France, with the majority of the Domaine’s production snapped up in Paris, by the city’s bistros and restaurants.
“This is a bright, squeaky clean Loire sauvignon with lifted aromas of green apple, lime, nettle and fresh mint. Some green bean vegetal as well. It is light to medium bodied – only 11% abv -compact and direct. Love this lighter frame without sacrificing flavour. Very well balanced. The length is excellent, Tasted July 2025”
