Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta

Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta was founded in 1895 by Félix Martínez Lacuesta, a lawyer, journalist, and winemaker in Haro, Spain. His overarching quest was to improve the quality of Rioja wines, and under the tutelage of French winemakers, Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta became a benchmark of Rioja wines.

The Capeador Reserva is a classic wine from Martínez Lacuesta that has been produced since 1916 in the style of old Burgundies. With an equal presence of Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes, the Campeador Reserva highlights the very best of both, creating a range of vibrant nuances. The Campeador brand was initially registered as a méthode champenoise wine, although it soon became the line of wines with which Martínez Lacuesta forged as the first Rioja identity.

The Campeador shows dark cherry red with a garnet edge in the glass. A velvety wine that is full-bodied and well-rounded with bright aromas over a spiced background. This fruity and fragrant Rioja represents a unique expression, showcasing the artistry of winemaking while encapsulating the essence of tradition, pushing the boundaries of expectation in the most delightful manner.

“Campeador is an up-to-date interpretation of a famous old brand, made with an equal combination of Tempranillo and Garnacha from Haro and Alfaro at opposite ends of the Rioja region. Modern, focused and acid-driven, with scented American oak and red cherry, bramble and vanilla flavours. 2023-30”
