Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta was founded in 1895 by Félix Martínez Lacuesta, a lawyer, journalist, and winemaker in Haro, Spain. His overarching quest was to improve the quality of Rioja wines, and under the tutelage of French winemakers, Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta became a benchmark of Rioja wines.
Hinia takes its name from the fossilized shells found in the soil from a time when the whole region was under the sea. This is a typical, classic, Rioja blend — fresh and smooth with well-balanced acidity and tannins. It has an intense cherry red colour with notes of ripe black fruit, an elegant range of balsamic notes with tobacco leaves, caramel, vanilla and chocolate. Aged for 36 months in American oak, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place naturally. A homage to the refined classic wines from Haro.
“Aromas of plum, pickled sour cherry, wild berries and spices such as cinnamon and allspice. Juicy and balanced on the palate, with well-integrated tannins, ripe acidity and a long, mineral finish.”

“A savory, lightly earthy Rioja with subtle vanilla, sweet spices and orange citrus. Well aged, with a medium body, firm tannins and a lengthy finish. Notes of wood on the palate, but not in excess. Drink now or hold for another few years.”
