Chanson produces one of the rare white Savigny-les-Beaune from its own vineyard called Hauts-Marconnets. The particular nature of the soil of this “Hauts Marconnets” vine, with a high proportion of calcareous marl and sand, prompted Chanson to plant the vine with Chardonnay rather than Pinot Noir. The 2.20 hectare vineyard is ideally located at the top of the hillside of Savigny, facing east.
The wine is rich in substance, so it easily balances the 15 months ageing in small oak barrels. The result is a wine with floral aromas and spicy notes, combined with the vanilla of the oak barrels. On the palate its lively, with well integrated acidity and a complex and juicy aftertaste.
“The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Hauts Marconnets 1er Cru had a very light struck match scent on the nose. Moderate intensity, maybe just missing a touch of mineralité due to that reduction. The palate is very satisfying. Fine weight and balance, a slightly waxy texture with plenty of dry extract on the finish. This is well-crafted.” 89-91 points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, December 2021
