Château Peymouton is part of the estate of Château Laroque, a historic Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion located just 3.5 km east of the medieval village. The vineyard itself was planted in the 18th century. Located on high plateau parcels of the estate, which are composed in part of a thin layer of rich clay over limestone, and partly of deep, thick red clay. These soils contribute density and structure to the wine that nonetheless retains the elegance imparted by the limestone.
This Merlot dominant right bank blend, perfectly balanced by the careful ratio of both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, has a creamy mouthfeel and balanced tannic structure. With a core of blackberries and plums, revealing earthy tobacco and herbs. The intense fruit means this wine is ready to drink now, or can be held for another 5+ years.
“A firm, savoury young Bordeaux with tobacco, redcurrant and crushed-stone character, as well as some bark. It’s medium-bodied with solid tannins and a flavourful finish. Needs time to soften. Better in 2024.”
