Each wine in Kosta Browne’s “Appellation Series” is an attempt to capture the unique qualities that make the region unique. A series of regional celebrations, if you will.
The Santa Rita Hills (one of California’s smaller AVA’s) was born a mere 20 million years ago. It’s nothing short of a miracle – a truly remarkable place to make wine with an expressive grape like Pinot Noir. Tectonic plates caused mountains to rise out of the ocean, break, then rotate, creating a transverse mountain range running inland from the Pacific. In addition to mineral rich soil literally raised from the ocean floor, the unique mountain range funnels cooling coastal fog to inland vines. As a result, this region is one of the best cool-climate growing regions for Pinot Noir in the world.
Traditional and non-traditional techniques are used to make a consistently precise and textural wine: Fermented in stainless steel, concrete, and wood vats, then matured in new and old French oak and concrete.
Thanks to cooler sites and long hang time on the vine, you can expect a fragrant, focused, structured Pinot with notes of strawberry and cherry and a pleasing tension from bright acidity. This fascinatingly layered wine is delightfully unique. As captivating as it is delicious, it is robust and dynamic, with intense fruit and spice notes continuing throughout the palate, building to a complex and polished finish.
