The second wine of Château Léoville Poyferré, the Pavillon benefits from the same care as its big brother, both in the vineyard and in the cellars.
Bursting with fruit, this bright, attractive wine is accessible in its youth but will also cellar beautifully. Dominated by Cabernet and supported by Merlot, Petit Verdot & Cabernet Franc, the Pavillon is a purest’s representation of St Julien – majestically pairing concentration with elegance and purity.
“Complex, harmonious nose with notes of plums, blackberries and currants, as well as spices and wood aromas. Full-bodied and balanced, showing an elegant combination of velvety, yet fine tannins. Long, flavorful finish. Second wine of Leoville Poyferre. A blend of 68% cabernet sauvignon, 24% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Try after 2024.” 94 points, James Suckling, March 2021
“Dark ruby, purple reflections, delicate ochre brightening on the rim. Savoury bouquet with dark berry fruit, hints of liquorice and graphite. Juicy palate, good complexity, dark cherry, vivid, interwoven tannins and long. Already showing some maturity, but has certain ageing potential.”
92 points, Peter Moser, Falstaff, 2021
“The nose is elegant, aromatic and offers a beautiful definition, a fine complexity and harmony. It reveals notes of ripe wild blackberry, wild cassis and small notes of wild raspberry associated with small touches of small berries, lily, violet as well as a hint of tea and spices. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a juicy frame, tension, tension as well as dynamism. On the palate this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy raspberry, cassis and small notes of violet associated with touches of blackberry, small wild red fruits as well as a fine hint of plum, black tea, Badiane and sweet spices. Good length and persistence.”
91-92 points, Jonathan Chicheportiche, Verte de Vin, 2021
