Pomarium, Latin for “apple orchard”, is a reference to the vineyard’s history as a fruit orchard, planted to Bartlett pears and Gravenstein apples. Many of these 100-year-old trees surround the vineyards to this day.
This farming heritage is an important connection to the Pomarium blend. Made from a selection of core Pinot Noir clones and blocks that emphasize dark fruit and earthy flavours, with high tone floral incense aromas. This offers a broad canvas and a balanced tension to the wine that makes it so unique. Pomarium continues to delight with each vintage, all showing incredible complexity and nuance.
“The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Pomarium is the most virile and earthy of the Peay Pinots. It offers up wild cherry, crushed autumn leaves, spice, tobacco and incense. Potent tannins add to an impression of somber gravitas. I find the 2021 a bit burly, but that is a pretty small critique at this level.”
