Red Table Wine
Yarran Wines was awarded the 2021 Dark Horse of the Year by Halliday Wine Companion. Yarran is a family-owned and operated winery located in Yenda, New South Wales. Yenda is part of the Riverina region, a registered Australian Geographical Indication (AGI). The AGI has a long tradition for winemaking that dates back to 1913 and is renowned for producing world-class wines of exceptional quality. Over the past 3 years Sam has focused on improving the quality of the estate-grown grapes, moving to organic conversion.
The warm and dry climate of the Yenda region is the ideal environment for ripening healthy Shiraz. Yarran’s Shiraz marries the deep fruit tones of a classic Australian varietal with a bright jolt of acid.
Lifted plum and fruitcake aromas with spicy chocolate and oak on the palate. This is a lush wine with layers of deep violet fruit. Eminently drinkable, exceptional value, completely satisfying. When cooking with charcoal, this Shiraz should be at your table.
“This sort of price demands strategic winemaking practises to produce a delicious wine. That concept is rarity in this pricing zone, to be frank. This includes an innovative fermentation approach with sweeping arms to preclude the fruit from excessive extraction, ample time on skins to attenuate the tannins and the economical use of staves and American oak. Violet, boysenberry and clove. Plump yet sinewy and savoury enough to evince a modicum of sophistication. This drinks akin to a wine twice its price. My overall impression is one of intuition and an admirably deft touch.” 91 points, Halliday Wine Companion, August 2021
