The Leflaive family has resided in the village of Puligny-Montrachet for centuries; today, it is home to Maison Olivier Leflaive. The terroir here is second to none, and the winery produces almost a dozen cuvées from the appellation’s top-tier Chardonnay vineyards each year. The appellation of Puligny-Montrachet lies toward the bottom of a hillside, with Meursault to the north and Chassagne-Montrachet to the south. The pebbly soil here is rich in clay and limestone. The style produced varies by site, but the appellation is associated with wines of elegance and richness. Olivier Leflaive is fortunate to have access to fruit from over 21 sites in the appellation, bringing a beautiful depth to the wine. Vines are 36 years old, on average.

Sustainably-grown Chardonnay is harvested by hand in small lots. Upon arrival at the winery, fruit is pressed immediately by a gentle pneumatic press, 70% crushed first, the remainder pressed as whole berries. The wine goes through primary and secondary in French oak barrels (20% new), where it matures on fine lees for 12 months. It rests in bottle for a spell prior to release.
