Consider: A Pinot Grigio with beauty and brains. No one-note citrus-heavy lightweight here. From fifth-generation northern Italian producer Tiefenbrunner, this is a classic wine with substance, structure, and style. Grapes come from the vineyards on the chalk-gravel hillside moraine of Kurtatsch and sandy alluvial plains of Margreid and Cortina. No wallflower, this Pinot Grigio is a round, creamy-textured rendition. Pergola and guyot-trained fruit was harvested from vines up to 35 years old. The wine fermented in stainless steel, followed by four months maturation on fine lees before bottling.

Sunny sand-yellow in colour, with an open bouquet of green herbs, ripe pear, and melon. Fine chalk, lemon, and quinine on the palate. The fruit exhibits a wonderful impression of ripeness throughout. A fragrant, mouthwatering, rich wine that maintains good poise.

“Merus, from the Latin meaning “pure and undiluted,” apropos for pinot grigio that’s clearly cut above the rest. Golden, sun-kissed and richly cumulate of fruit (and phenolics), all the while bright and airy. Also about as unctuous as it gets for grape and Trentino-Alto Adige, yet always crisp, clean and sharp. What pinot grigio should be from Italy’s northeast. Drink 2024-2026.”
