Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta

Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta was founded in 1895 by Félix Martínez Lacuesta. When it comes to traditional Rioja character the elegant style that defines Martínez Lacuesta represents a unique, recognizable heritage among the Rioja region’s hundred-year-old wineries.

The grapes for the Lacuesta Blanco Reserva come from their oldest Viura vineyards in the municipality of Haro. These vineyards are located at an altitude of 430 – 500 metres above sea level and were planted more than 45 years ago in clay-limestone soils. The fossil shells called Hinia come from these soils, from which the wine takes its name.

This is a clean, bright and lively wine. On the nose it stands out for its aromatic intensity, in a very fruity and varietal version at the beginning which gives way to an elegant range of balsamic notes and subtle nuances of its ageing. Perfectly integrated.

This first vintage of Hinia Blanco Reserva stands out in the mouth for its freshness, elegance, complexity and length. The oak is perfectly blended and supports the length. With time, the bottle will take this wine to the next dimension.

“Hinia deserves to take its place among the most exciting whites in Rioja. Even though it’s made from Viura, it has more in common with a wine from Pessac-Léognan or maybe Rías Baixas. Racy, salty and reductive, with notes of toast and pink grapefruit and a long, tapering finish. The wood is very subtle here. 2024-29.”
