Le Clos du Bourg is a six hectare enclosed vineyard surrounded by stone walls. It is located on the first slopes above the church in Vouvray, where it captures warmth from the sun and is protected from wind. The rather thin soil, only about one metre deep, lies in direct contact with the non-active limestone subsoil.

Chenin Blanc grown in the Clos du Bourg vineyard is tended and hand-harvested with the utmost care to preserve the delicate aromatics that make this wine so special. Characterized by deep clay-rich soil with veins of white chalk, Clos du Bourg is a site where Chenin Blanc expresses its wonderful aromatics while maintaining a racy acidity. This dynamic makes the wines entirely cellar-worthy.

“A lacy, seductive version, with impressive range to its notes of chamomile, heather, honey water and blanched almond, all atop a crunchy core of quince and nectarine. Its sneaky density builds, electrified by juicy acidity that uplifts the plumpness. The elegant finish is marked by smoke and a cool rush of alpine herbs. Stunning. Drink now through 2040. 700 cases made.”

“More introverted and shy in comparison to Haut-Lieu, the 2024 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec wafts from the glass with aromas of grapefruit, confit citrus, lime and spring flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and phenolic, it’s slightly austere with a tannic mid-palate that leads to a gently bitter finish. This refined yet structured wine needs some time in the cellar to chill out. Residual sugar: eight grams per liter.”
