The Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay is the flagship wine of Domaine Serene’s Chardonnay program. Domaine Serene is known for it’s skillful blending and small-lot fermentations to produce wines that speak to Oregon’s unique cool-climate terroir. This wine, that came to the fore in 2016 when Wine Spectator awarded the 2014 vintage the honour of Top White Wine of the Year, is fairly consistent from vintage to vintage.

Featuring fruit from Dijon clones grown in the winery’s premier Dundee Hills vineyards, the wine spends just over one year aging in French oak. It is a beautiful shade of pale yellow with intense aromas of Key lime, ginger, and brioche. After a little time in the glass, a sweeter aromatic layer of Meyer lemon, honey, graham cracker, and buttery pastry emerges. Vibrant acidity and a long and lingering finish.

“Aromas of white peaches and under-ripe mangoes with pear drops, savory herbs, crushed stones and raw walnuts. Full-bodied and tight with the density and creaminess of ripe stone fruit, with vivid acidity and a lingering, textured mouthfeel. Delicate character of pastry crust and toffee at the end with a creamy finish. Drink or hold.”

“Orchard fruit meets the tropics here, with apricots duking it out with passion fruit for aromatic supremacy. I also enjoyed the wine’s floral and spicy mix of plumeria and gardenia. The flavors are a wall of lemon, with lemon bars and lemon balm tea holding court, joined by a bit of saline. Lively acidity is a bonus.”
