This is no ordinary Pinot Grigio. Fruit is sourced from the Gris vineyard (pronounced ‘Griss’) on the right bank of the Isonzo River, home to 30-year-old mature Pinot Grigio vines grown in the calcareous gravel of a wide alluvial shelf.

The wine was fermented in large French oak casks and left to age in the same barrel for 12 months. Frequent stirring of the lees enhances mid-palate richness and adds notes of nuts and toasted biscuit, which in no way mask the freshness of the fruit.

It’s creamy, perfumed, bright and juicy, and hauntingly complex.

“The 2022 Pinot Grigio Gris is refined with a delicate mix of white flowers, raw almonds, stone dust and yellow apples. Youthfully compact, it has a pretty inner sweetness offset by crisp mineral tones as silken textures usher in ripe orchard fruits. Long and staining, the 2022 leaves a minty freshness and lasting concentration. It’s enjoyable today, but the best is yet to come.”

“Made with 100% oak-fermented Pinot Grigio, the Lis Neris 2022 Friuli Isonzo Gris (with 45,000 bottles produced) has sweet stone fruits, melon and hints of apple pie with the crust. There is some residual sugar that adds to the wine’s soft and creamy texture. Having also tasted the 2015 vintage of this wine as a late release, it would be a mistake to underestimate the medium-term aging potential of this bottle.”
