Massaya Terrasses de Baalbeck is an impressive red blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Crafted by the Ghosn brothers with long-standing French partners, this wine bears all the hallmarks of terroir-driven Rhône-style blending, yet with a distinctive high-altitude Lebanese signature. This single vineyard wine is made from organic grapes grown on the foothills of Mount Lebanon, in the Hadath Baalbeck area at more than 1,000 metres above sea level.
Hand-picked grapes are destemmed and vinified for 20 to 30 days in temperature controlled oak vats. The wine is matured for 20 to 22 months in large oak vats and bottled without fining or filtering.
Plum, garrigue and licorice characterize the aromatic profile of this red with a beautiful texture and present tannins. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now but promises rewards with a few more years in bottle. It pairs beautifully with lamb chops and beef stews.
“Dense and dark, with aromas of tar, leather, elderberries and sloe fruit. Full-bodied with a compact tannic core. Very long, emphatically dry finish that’s smoky and tarry. A cuvee of 40% grenache plus 30% each of syrah and mourvedre. Screw cap. Drink or hold.”
