Patrick Jasmin is a true artisan in the terraced slopes of Côte-Rôtie; a fourth generation wine maker tending to parcels in 8 different Lieu-Dits, with his wife Arlette expertly handling all business matters.
Jamin’s signature cuvee, La Giroflarie, is made with 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier, the latter a traditional addition adding finesse and floral aromas. His Syrah vines are massale selections of the ancient and near extinct “la vieille sérine” clone, which produce smaller berries with lower yields and beautiful aromatics. Grapes are de-stemmed, and co-fermented in cement with a 3 week maceration. The juice is then racked into a combination of barrel and demi-muid, 15-30% of which is new depending on the vintage, and then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
This Côte-Rôtie will age beautifully, and already shows notes of ripe red and black berries, licorice, and spring flowers, with fine grained tannins and a Burgundian restraint.
“Tasted out of barrel, the 2023 Côte Rôtie La Giroflarie will be a beautiful wine. It shows the pure, vibrant style of the vintage in its darker fruits, violets, and peppery, spring flower-driven nuances. These carry to a medium to full-bodied Côte Rôtie with fine tannins, a beautifully layered, seamless mouthfeel, and outstanding length.”
