Located directly in front of the winery, at 450 meters, the southwest-facing Vigna del Sorbo vineyard is planted atop Galestro soils in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, only a few hundred meters from the town of Panzano. First produced in 1985, Vigna del Sorbo started off as a Riserva, where it was then one of the first wines promoted to a Gran Selezione in 2009 when the new designation in Chianti Classico was introduced.
A single-vineyard Gran Selezione with its own precise identity as a dense, expressive and concentrated Sangiovese that often go beyond the highest expectations of this grape in terms of concentration, complexity and age-ability.
“Clear and fresh aromas of black cherries and citrus rind with some blood orange undertones. Medium-bodied, firm and silky, with a polished texture and a long, intense finish. Very fine tannins. Give it two or three years to soften slightly but there’s pretty energy to this. From organically grown grapes. Drink after 2027.”

“A finished wine because today is bottling day and what serendipity to taste it on the day. Vigna Del Sorbo is one of the vineyards that escaped the August 16th hail because it’s on the other side of the (Conca d’Oro) valley. Full quantity as a result, approximately one-third matured in new wood, the second year spent in older cask. Freshness captured and as always Vigna del Sorbo is the spiciest of the Gran Selezione but also the one of the three with the finest, if grainiest tannic profile. This after an aromatic wave of floral and mineral before giving way to a sangiovese that integrates with impunity. You’ve got to figure that the age of the vines are responsible for handling the heat of 2022. Drink 2027-2036. Tasted February 2025.”

“Blackberry, black currant, plum, tar and sweet spice flavors are aligned with thick, beefy tannins in this red. Unevolved at this stage, showing plenty of fruit that needs to come together with the structural components. Best from 2028 through 2045. 1,600 cases made, 670 cases imported.”
