Referts is the closest vineyard to Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes. Subtle differences in the soil lead to a wine that is know to be fattier and unctuous. The name Referts refers to ‘a field of bush and rocks’ — the land had to be thoroughly cleared before vines could be planted. The soil is marly at the top and and darker more iron-rich at the bottom, therefore it produces a more unctuous and a fatter wine than the others in Puligny-Montrachet.
After being hand-harvested, the grapes are immediately pressed. Following fermentation, the wine ages 17 months in oak barrels (25% new oak).
The wine leads with a sophisticated and concentrated nose of citrus and apricot aromas and then develops honey and butter notes with age. The finesse of Puligny-Montrachet combined with a dense and fleshy texture makes this another beautiful wine to enjoy now and for the next four years. An ideal partner to seafood, fish in sauce of mature cheeses.
