H. Cuvelier & Fils

The Cuvelier family, renowned proprietors of Château Léoville Poyferré (Second Growth, Saint-Julien) and Château Le Crock (Cru Bourgeois, Saint-Estèphe), brings generations of Bordeaux expertise to every bottle they produce. With deep roots in the Médoc and a passion for precision winemaking, the family’s philosophy is rooted in showcasing the character of each vintage through thoughtful sourcing and blending. Cuvelier Bordeaux Rouge represents their broader vision: a true expression of Bordeaux, crafted from carefully selected fruit across the region.

Each year, the highest-quality grapes are sourced from various Bordeaux appellations to reflect the nuances of the vintage. Vinified with the same care as their classified growths, the wine is aged in stainless steel and a portion in French oak to preserve freshness while adding subtle complexity. In the glass, it offers vibrant aromas of red and black fruits. Think cassis, cherry, and plum, layered with hints of spice and soft tannins. The palate is supple, well-balanced, and approachable, making it a versatile red that speaks clearly of its Bordeaux origins.

Cuvelier Bordeaux Rouge is an ideal partner for classic bistro fare: grilled steak frites, roast chicken with herbs, or lentil stew with thyme and garlic. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheddar, or mushroom-based dishes.

“As perfumed as any in the Bordeaux idiom if significantly higher priced than $19 from 2020 and yet 2023 at $30 is exactly what the quality suggests the cost should be. The aspects of fruit ripeness and concentration coupled with formidable tannic freight will lead to a ten year run for this truly well made wine. This vintage is more refined then that semi-swarthy 2020 and so something gained is offset by something lost. Hard to do much better at this price. Drink 2025-2028. Tasted November 2025.”
