Nestled in the rolling hills of Piedmont, Produttori del Barbaresco is one of Italy’s most respected cooperative wineries. Since its revival in 1958 by the village priest of Barbaresco, Produttori has brought together local growers under one vision: to preserve the integrity of Nebbiolo and the heritage of Barbaresco. What began as 19 families working towards the same goal has grown into 56 members, each tending their own vines with intimate knowledge passed down through generations. Their collective vineyards span some of the appellation’s most prized crus, each site adding nuance to the winery’s celebrated single-vineyard Riserva program.
Crafted from Nebbiolo grown in the clay soils of the Ovello vineyard, the Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a striking expression of the region’s potential. This wine opens with a garden of aromas, from the earthy notes of turned soil to ripe blackberries, herbs, and the gentle warmth of raspberries. The palate is layered with savoury elements of mixed herbs, tobacco, and liquorice root, providing a depth that leads into vibrant cherry and marionberry flavours. Fresh acidity adds brightness, perfectly balanced by elegant tannins that promise aging potential. With its complexity and finesse, this Barbaresco offers a sophisticated experience that continues to evolve in the glass.
Pair this wine with roasted lamb or a hearty mushroom risotto to complement its savoury depth and vibrant fruit character.
“The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello sizzles with tension right out of the gate. Orange peel, mint, chalk, white pepper and crushed rocks are all finely sketched. Bright and sinewy to the core, the 2021 captures the purest essence of Ovello. It’s another stellar wine in this range. The Ovello will appeal most to readers who like tense wines.”

“Restrained if not austere, showing dark fruit, earthy tones and cherries with almost wild blackberries and a whiff of blood oranges. Full-bodied. The attack is dense and velvety with thick, firm tannins that are dusty yet ripe. Powerful but well-balanced at the end, with a mouth-coating texture. March 2026 release, but will need another year or two to be ready to drink.”
