Quintodecimo is one of Campania’s most respected modern estates, founded in 2001 by acclaimed oenologist Luigi Moio and Laura Di Marzio in Mirabella Eclano, in the heart of Irpinia. The winery’s name refers to the ancient term Quintum Decimum, a historic reference to the area’s position fifteen miles from Benevento, linking the estate closely to the deep history of its land. Today, Quintodecimo is known for precision farming, low-intervention vineyard work, and wines that combine scientific rigour with a profound sense of place.
Vigna Quintodecimo is the estate’s flagship Taurasi, produced from 100% Aglianico grown in a single two-hectare vineyard planted in 2001 on the north-west side of the estate. The site sits at roughly 420 metres above sea level, with a steep 25% slope and limestone-rich clay soils, giving the wine both power and precision.
The wine is a deeply expressive and age-worthy Taurasi, showing Aglianico at its most noble: dark cherry, blackberry, wild plum, violet, dried herbs, spice, tobacco, leather, and subtle balsamic notes. Full-bodied and structured, it carries the firm, savoury tannins and vibrant acidity that make great Taurasi so long-lived. The wine is fermented for around 20–25 days and aged for 24 months in new oak barrels, adding depth, texture, and a refined frame without overwhelming the fruit.
This is a serious cellar wine, but one with enough richness and intensity to enjoy now with proper decanting. Pair it with braised beef, roasted lamb, wild boar ragù, aged cheeses, or hearty mushroom dishes.
