Continuum Estate

Continuum is yet another page in the Mondavi family legacy, a “5th beginning”. Founded in 2005, it is a partnership between members of the Robert, Marcia and Tim Mondavi families. It is a rededication and refinement of the family’s longstanding commitment to excellence in winemaking. Continuum’s goal is to produce a single wine that is recognized among the finest in the world.

Novicium is so-named for being the ongoing study of the winery’s Sage Mountain Vineyard. This “novitiate” offers a decidedly different glimpse, giving the winegrowers greater freedom to further explore the myriad of elements that give our Sage Mountain Vineyard distinction.

Novicium displays its predecessors’ signature approachability with a fresh and playful nose of red fruit and candied apple mixed with autumn leaves, bay laurel and the slightest hint of dewy spring peonies. A vibrant and direct wine, it has a plush entry and weighted mid palate of dark chocolate, black fruit, brown spice and tapenade. A vintage character both friendly and powerful, with Sage Mountain Vineyard’s iron core and a brightly expressed structure and finish.

“Beautiful aromas of hazelnuts, black currants, violets and graphite. Medium-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a consistent and focused finish. A blend of 91% cabernet sauvignon, 4% cabernet franc, 3% petit verdot and 2% merlot. Very drinkable now, but better from 2028.”
95 points, James Suckling, June 2026

“A beautiful second wine that shows the class of the vintage with its pure cassis and subtle red and blue fruits intermixed with beautiful savory herbs, iron, tobacco, and chalky minerality, the 2023 Novicium is based on 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Merlot and aged 22 months in 45% new French oak with 49% neutral French oak and 1% concrete amphora. It’s medium to full-bodied, has a pure, focused mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It’s very much in the pure, focused, elegant, yet concentrated style of the vintage. Give it 2-3 years, and it will keep for two decades. Drink 2027-2045.”
94 Jeb Dunnuck, December 2025
